Is It Normal To Have Some Menstrual Periods Heavier Than Others?

Thanks for writing to us
Heavy period means excessive flow which can be in the form of blood clots or fresh blood and duration of which is long.
Normal duration is 3-5 days but if it lasts more than 5 days and you feel weak and uncomfortable , it is called menorrhagia or heavy periods.
You have to change your sanitary napkins more than 5 times per day.
It is not abnormal to have heavy periods right from the beginning.
If the flow has increased recently or within few years then one has to be cautious as haemoglobin levels might fall due to heavy bleeding.
Causes for heavy bleeding can be hormonal , fibroid uterus , ademomyosis etc.
Blood picture , thyroid function tests , ultrasound will clear the picture,
Do not forget to take diet XXXXXXX in iron along with iron supplements
I hope I have answered your query but any other query is most welcome
Best wishes
Take care
