Is It Normal To Have Type 3 Biliary Acid Malabsorbtion Inspite Of Suffering From IBS?

Recently I have found out that I have type 3 biliary acid malabsorbtion.
Is this a common misdiagnosis.
Type 3 bile acid absorption may occur secondary to IBS
Detailed Answer:
Hello
My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.
I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. Bile acid malabsorption may occurs in a number of diseases and in patients with chronic diarrhea. Type 3 bile acid absorption is secondary to various G.I diseases like IBS, cholestectomy, vagotomy, Gut bacterial overgrowth, celiac disease, etc.
> Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is made using the SeHCAT test in which a radio-labelled bile acid analogue is administered and percentage retention at 7 days is calculated.
-> Now if in your case SeHCAT test has been performed and results depict bile acid malabsorption then its not a misdiagnosis.
> Treatment:
Treatment is with colestyramine, a resin which binds and inactivates the action of bile acids in the colon(large intestine).
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
