Is It Okay For The Stump Of The Umbilical Cord To Bleed?
Question: My baby is one week old, his umblical cord is almost dried but today there was a little bleeding in the cord. Is it normal?
Brief Answer:
Do not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM
I understand your concerns but don't worry. It's a common finding while the cord is in its seperation phase. All you need to do is to clean it by sterile spirit swab and apply gentle pressure on bleeding point. Hopefully it will be fine with in seconds.
In case the bleeding continues, then visit your pediatrician. Vitamin K injection will be useful for treatment.
Continue regular breastfeeding.
Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care

Thank u so much. When can i give him a bath? Is it safe to give a bath now, will it not cause any infection to the belly button.
Brief Answer:
Start bathing him
Detailed Answer:
Hi
You can start giving him a bath now. Wash belly button with soap and water. Clean it with dry and clean cloth after bath. Let it air dry thereafter and do not apply anything on it. If kept dry and clean, it won't get infected.
