Brief Answer:
Amoxicillin is safe.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Due to infection, he is at present weak.

2. He will require good hydration and nutrition. His hydration and nutrition has suffered, which is causing him sleep and lethargic. If the root canal infection had progressed, it would have been more painful.

3. Antibiotics are necessary for infection.
If his root canal infection is almost clear, then amoxycillin with good hydration and nutrition can be continued.

You need to discuss with your doctor, regarding increased weakness and switching over to another antibiotic, if pain in the jaws or fever is present. Otherwise, amoxicillin is safe and effective too.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
