Is It Safe To Give Topcef With Econorm For Infants?
The two drugs seem to be OK
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
although the dosage information for cefixime refers to children 6 months old or older, this drug has been used (in medical trials) from the age of 2 months old with success. The right dosage is 8mg/Kg. You haven't mentioned your baby's weight, so I can't do the math for you. Multiply its weight (in Kilograms) by 8 and you get the dosage in mg.
Econorm is just Saccharomyces boulardi. This is not a drug and there is no problem with it.
The rashes probably signify an allergic reaction to cefixime (topcef) which is a fairly frequent event. You should contact your doctor for further guidance because the treatment regimen would likely have to be altered.
I hope I've helped!
Kind Regards!
I can't say

Hi,
I've seen the pictures and they are not very helpful. It doesn't seem like measles but I can't say for sure by the picture. Measles is a highly contagious disease but it requires getting into contact with a diseased individual. Your 4 month old baby lives at your home - I suppose - so measles is less likely because of that. You should have been vaccinated (and the same applies for your wife) for measles when you were children, so you couldn't have transmitted it to your baby.
Measles starts with fever, runny nose and irritated (perhaps red) eyes. Measles lesions start from the head (behind the ears first) and spread to the body and later to the extremities. The lesions spread over 2-3 days.
There are a lot of similar diseases in little children like measles, german measles (rubella), fifth disease, roseola infanftum etc but if the lesions started after using the antibiotic, the allergy is a concern. Your pediatrician is the right person to gather all the clinical data required to form the diagnosis. Some of these disease may have some special characteristics like lymph nodes behind the ears , the way the skin lesions spread, associated symptoms etc.
For a 7.3 Kg baby 58mg is the right dose. The package should read X mg/Y mL. Which means that Y mL of the drug contain X mg. So in order to find how many mL you should give your baby you have to calculate the following:
(Yx58)/X that is multiply Y by 58 and divide it by X.
Contact me again with the relevant information, if you want and I'll be glad to give you the accurate dose.
Kind Regards!
