Is It Safe To Have Acai Berry Cleanse While Having Latuda?

Posted on Tue, 17 Feb 2015
Question: Hi Dr. XXXXXXX
I take Latuda and Lithium and recently I tried out an acai berry cleanse containing a stimulant laxative. Does this really effect the absorption of my medicines. If so, how much?
Thanks for this help and look forward to hearing from you

Brief Answer:
No Interaction significant or worrisome

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Stimulant laxatives work at colon levels by stimulating the colonic intramural neuronal plexus; alters water and electrolyte secretion, resulting in net intestinal fluid accumulation and laxation; provokes defecation within 24 hours and may cause abdominal cramping.

On the contrary the medications you mentioned are both antipsychotics and are absorbed in small intestine. So none of them have any interaction with any stimulant laxative like bisacodyl, senna etc.

Latuda is excreted in feces and stimulant laxative rather helps prevent toxicity of latuda instead of interacting .

nut shell there is no interaction between the two because of different locations of actions.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
