Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Frequent Bowels, Diverticulitis, Anal Bleeding. Causes And Treatment?
I have been suffering with too many bowel movements for some time. I have had a large bowel procedure which showed diveritular disease. I have since had a small bowel meal and await results. I am still bleeding periodically from the back passage, bright red blood and have what feels like a large protrusion below my chest but above my belly button which is evident when getting out of bed.
Majority of diverticular disease remain asymptomatic the majority of the time. Innocent diverticulae are often blamed for symptoms that are due to other pathology. Bleeding from anus, frequent bowel movement needs exclusion of ulcerative colitis or colonic cancer. A repeat colonoscopy should be performed ~6 weeks after an attack/initial diagnosis of diverticular disease.
It seems you have also supra-umbilical abdominal wall hernia (protrusion above belly button evident when getting out of bed), due to divarication of recti, common in elderly. You have not specified your age.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Tushar Kanti Biswas, Internal Medicine Specialist
