Is It Safe To Have Cocktails While Suffering From Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease?
Question: Does a person with Stage 3 KD, GFR 44 Creatinine 1.22, BUN 28 have to watch what they eat and drink? I have read some Doctors don't seem to think it matters and others do. What is your opinion? Are cocktails several times a week and or a little chocolate every day harmful? Is there something more specific I should or should not do?
Brief Answer:
Normal creatinine
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
The serum creatinine is within normal limits so I am thinking how can it be graded as stage 3 chronic kidney disease.
I would like to know a few more details in order to answer this
1. is this a single reading nod creat or were there other reading as well?
2. has any urine routine been done? could you please furnish the report ?
3.is there any swelling of the legs ?
4. please mention height and weight of the patient
please get back to me , I am awaiting your reply
regards

that was my last test - it has been as low as 1.04 to 1.73 one time. But since I have tried to be careful of what I was eating, it was 1.22. No urine test done. never have any swelling of legs. I am 5.4 and weight 152. I thought a GFR 0f 30 to 59 meant that I am in Stage 3. Last urine test of last October was normal.
My kidneys are also normal size.

Hello
Thanks for getting back, I am sorry for the short delay in my reply. There was a family emergency.
Here are my suggestions
1.Serum creat of 0.8 to 1.2 is normal. Serum creat can go up in times of dehydration or exertional activities.
2. Chronic state is labelled when serum creat is persistently high for more than 3 months in a row or else it is called acute kidney injury. It is just an estimated GFR, to know a more accurate reading of GFR I recommend you to undergo a DTPA scan,
Here is how you should go about it
1. First and foremost step is to see for anatomy of the kidney. Get a ultrasound done to know the size and texture of the kidney
2. Get a urine routine and a 24 hour urine protein and creat done. At the same time get a serum creatinine done
3. Check for secondary evidence for chronic kidney disease like anemia status, high uric acid, high phosphorus, low calcium
4. If the serum creat is high, please approach a nephrologist for a kidney biopsy.
I hope i was of help, if you have any further query please get back to me. I am sure you will have doubts and I will be happy to clear them
I am once again sorry for the delay
Regards
