Is It Safe To Take Amlodipine And Tamsulosin Together?
Question: Taking amlodipine besylate 5 mg daily subsequent to stoping lisinopril 4 months ago. Concern over high normal bp started triamterene-hctz 37.5-25 mg 7 months ago, however now taking half tablet every 2-3 days. daily 25 mg dropped bp from 140/72 daily avg to 115/64 daily avg. On a reduced dose now & bp daily avg is 125/70. Full daily dose caused renal insufficiency. Tried Tamsulosin recently with very positive effects regarding ease of urination. I have experienced none of the clinical warning symptoms mentioned in clinical trials or drug interaction warnings. my bp is still <120/<70 daily avg. The tamsulosin was not subscribed. I am 73 with BPH.
Brief Answer:
Can use amlodipine and tamsulosin
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.
You are concerned about your blood pressure while taking tamsulosin. The tamsulosin can cause lowering of blood pressure and since you have already started taking the medication without lowering your blood pressure then you should be safe to continue. You current blood pressure is in perfect control.
I would recommend that you continue with your regular blood pressure medication and see your doctor for a prescription of tamsulosin fro your bladder issues.
