Is It Safe To Take Buscopan During Pregnancy?
My ife is 38 weeks pregnant and we have been prescribed buscopan to relax her muscle walls. Reading online i notice that Buscopan is not usually prescribed to pregnant women.
Did my gynie recommend the right medicine?
It can be given if needed.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
At 38 weeks pregnancy the uterine contractions are a normal thing as the uterus prepares for the delivery. At this gestational age, any smooth muscle relaxant like isoxsuprine is not given as it will cause uterine relaxation and will interfere with normal delivery.
Buscopan is given for colicky pain of the abdomen and can be used on as and when required basis to get relief from the extreme intestinal colic. This is not harmful for the mother or the baby. So she can take it as prescribed.
