Hello,
You are suggested to get your father clinically examined and evaluated in ER. Get him an X-ray elbow done to rule out
fracture elbow, elbow dislocation,
olecranon bursitis. If needed his treating doctor will get done few blood tests,
ultrasound, MRI, fluid sample if bursa is detected. He will be treated with NSAIDs, one after food for relief of pain.
He can also continue to take the medicines prescribed. He can be given a splint or brace to help the affected elbow from moving. The more the elbow is at rest the better. Bursa if detected will be aspirated to remove the excess fluid. And treated with corticosteroid injection. In case there is no fracture, dislocation than taking pain relieving medicines and rest will give relief.
He should avoid lifting very heavy weight. He can be given gentle
massage with pain relieving ointment to fix any sprain or strain. Volini spray is helpful. Wearing brace or elbow pads will help to relieve
tendonitis. Stretch exercise under a Physical therapist are helpful.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
