My urologist believes I am trying to pass kidney stones, because of lower right pelvic pain and painful (but not burning) urination. She also thinks I have pelvic floor dysfunction and possibly interstitial cystitis but because of one or two instances of mild back pain in kidney region she highly suspects a stone trying to get out. I've had this pain, worsening with some good days, for about 8 days. I'm having a CT scan in 2 days to look for stones or anything else. I did have some fairly heavy bleeding with a UTI about 2 months ago, but it resolved.
I've been taking the Tylenol, as I said, but don't want to do so beyond the safe 10 day period (3000 mg/day for extra strength). I'd like to start taking ibuprofen or Aleve now but wasn't sure it was safe to switch. Thank you, Dr. Barani

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.
It is safe to switch over to ibuprofen after tylenol for seven days.
You would get better pain relief also with ibuprofen.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
