Is It Safe To Take Medicines During Periods?

Medications are safe if taken in prescribed dosage and duration.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Pain during periods (dysmenorrhea) is due to contraction and relaxation of the uterus to allow the blood to leave the uterus. It is due to hormones like progesterone. And the medications usually prescribed are NSAIDS which are considered to be safe if taken in prescribed dosage and duration.
If you have severe pain, then it would be better to visit a gynecologist who will prescribe you 3 cycles of Oral contraceptive pills which will reduce the severity. If even after 3 cycles of OCPs, if you have severe pain, then further evaluation would be required to rule out any other reasons.
Hope this answers your query. If any further clarifications, will be happy to help.
Regards.
