Is Masturbation Safe After An Inguinal Hernia Surgery?
Question: Hello Doc, I had lap inguinal hernia surgery 3 weeks back. Today I masturbated gently. Is it fine ?

Does Inguinal hernia surgery cause stiffness as well in the abdomen ? I feel little bit stiffness on both left and right side as I had bilateral hernia surgery. What can be the reason for this ? For many years the mesh can be intact or used ? What precautions do I need to take life long and for near future ? Any diet precautions ? Does Hernia surgery affect sexual health as well ? First of all please understand that the Surgeon who has operated you knows in-depth hence you should primarily follow his instruction and taking another opinion that too after surgery may not be in the interest of good practice principles.

As discussed above, mesh is for lifelong and is not removed as it becomes a part of the healing tissues and gives additional strength for avoiding recurrence.
No special precautions other than holding on heavy and strenuous activities for 12 weeks as by this time the healing is almost complete and has good strength. Avoid anything that causes coughing and constipation - that includes diet: have normal routine diet which you used to take before surgery. No special changes needed unless required like if you have anemia or hypoproteinemia or such problems that need supplements.
Hernia surgery should not affect sexual life at all; in fact can improve the sexual life in cases of repaired large hernias which may cause some problems in sexual activities.
Physical activities have strictly to be followed as per your Surgeon's advise as he has operated you and knows the extent of the hernia and repair, status of musculature and so on.
