Is Migraine A Symptom Of Shingles?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: I suspect I had a shingles outbreak due to severe flu like symptoms including migraine. I have never seen a rash and it is day 8
I started 1 gram of Valtrex 3xday on day 5 when I noticed the start of postherpetic neuralgia pain.
I know that dosing for shingles must continue for 7 days but I am on day 4 with no symptoms - can I stop or should I continue?

Brief Answer:
You can continue valciclovir for another 3 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I am Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, a dermatologist.
Shingles mostly presents with pain, burning and rash.
Rarely it presents with pain without the occurence of rash.
If I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to continue with valciclovir for another 3 days as its benefits will outweigh the risks.
Regards
Dr Asmeet
