Dear Friend.
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
See if HIV ELISA test is negative after 7 months of exposure it is highly unlikely that you have HIV.
Stop worrying about it.
Only thing that you have to keep in mind is to use protection during sex in future and not to do it with high risk people.
If you have any further query please ask me.

When you say highly unlikely. Does this mean not 100 percent sure and there is still a chance i could test positive in the future from this exposure 7 months ago

Dear Friend.
Yes 100% surity can not be given. Because exceptions can be there.
However usually if it is negative even after 7 months of exposure we consider it negative only. We even don't advise any retesting.
If you are very worried simply get your HIV RNA PCR test.
This would give you confirmation.
If you have any further query please ask me.

Dear XXXXXXX
It is clear. There are no chances of having HIV. There are rare case reports in which people were found to have positive test after 6 months.
Stop worrying.
If you are married or trust your partner you may not use protection. We advise using protection to people who have multiple sexual partners or there partner has multiple partners.
If you have any further query please ask me.

Does the hiv pcr test for antigens. And if so what is the difference between the pcr and an ag/ab test which also test for antigens. I had a 29 week ag/ab test.
