Brief Answer: No. Shingles does recur. Efficacy less at your age Detailed Answer: Hello, The VZV (Zostavax) vaccine can help prevent shingles in people 60 and older. It cannot be used for children. Most commonly, a person has only one episode of shingles in his or her lifetime. Although rare, a second or even third case of shingles can occur. Spreading of shingles is low if the rash is covered. You should keep rashes covered, avoid touching and scratching, and wash hands frequently to avoid spreading it. The efficacy of the vaccine in preventing shingles was higher in the younger age group (60-69 years; vaccine efficacy was 64%) than in the older age group (older than 70 years; vaccine efficacy was 38%). Studies are ongoing to assess the duration of protection from one dose of zoster vaccine and the need, if any, for booster doses. Thus one shot of vaccine does not provide complete cover from shingles. As i already mentioned, Shingles does recur. Please write back for further queries. Wishing you good health.
