Is Pain Behind Left Knee A Sign Of Arthritis?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Dec 2015
Question: I am 52, a woman and exercise 4 to 5 times a week. Weight bearing and hitt classes. Since early fall I have experienced pain on the inside back of left knee and occasionally the right knee same area. Outside of the gym I am very active as well we farm and still have a teenager at home. Is this just arthritis. I don't have swelling or redness just pain.

Brief Answer:
Osteoarthritis likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Since its been present since fall, based on your history , it appears to be osteoarthritis or DJD (Degenerative joint disease). The best test would be x rays of both the affected joints to look for signs of DJD. After examination of your lower limbs, based on the findings, your doctor may also advise a Doppler ultrasound just to be sure that there is no DVT or vascular insufficiency. Treatment would depend upon the cause.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

I have been to a vein specialist and the DVT is worse in my left leg. I thought this could be part of the pain. I'm due to have it fixed mid-December, after wearing compression hose for 6 weeks. Thank you.
