Is Persistent Bleeding After A C-section A Cause For Concern?

I delivered a baby on Jan-15 thru C-section. I had bleeding till 35 days & again it started on 44 th day & continued for 5 days like a normal monthly periods (stopped on day-48). Now today again on 50th day, bleeding started. I started taking Lactare tablet from today & we are giving formula milk for the baby 30-45ml per day from day-36.
Please help me understand how long will the bleeding continue? Doctor gave DEOMIC tablet for 3 days if bleeding does not stop after 45 days last month. Should i take that now? Is is something to do with feeding the baby formula milk in addition to breast milk?
Thanks,
XXXX
It is normal, if your scan and exam are fine.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Bleeding for almost a month after a C section is quite normal.
The norm is 3 weeks, but it might continue uptil a month.
ALso, the next bleeding that you had on day 44 could you be your normal period, since many women do have a period within 2 months of C section, particularly since you are not breastfeeding exclusively.
Also, menstrual bleeding maybe irregular for almost 3 - 6 months after childbirth.
SO the bleeding on day 50 is happening because your hormones are still stabilizing.
IT takes upto 6 months after delivery for periods to become regular , sometimes even longer than that.
Yes, since you are not exclusively breastfeeding, and have added formula milk for your baby, irregular bleeding and spotting may again happen.
Do not take any medications to stop this bleeding.
Just maintain a menstrual chart .
consult your doctor and have an internal exam and pelvic ultrasound scan to confirm that nothing is wrong inside the uterus.
Also, please use contraception if you are sexually active, since you have the risk of getting pregnant again.
If the ultrasound scan is normal, dont worry about the bleeding.
IT takes a while for your body to become normal like before.
All the best.
