ANA is used to screen many connective autoimmune disorders.It may also give false positive reports,so other tests should be simultaneously done to confirm SLE besides clinical correlation.
Anti-dsDNA antibodies are highly specific for SLE.
SLE is an autoimmune connective tissue disorder and it affects many system of our body like joints,heart,kidney,brain,skin etc.There is no specific cure of this disease.
Main treatment is to suppress immune system of our body.
Treatment is mainly symptomatic and immunosupression.Treatment depends upon stage of the disease.
Your doctor has rightly prescribed steroids.Since your mother also has diabetes mellitus ,so steroids should be used judiciously and in low dose.
Further requirement of other medicines depend upon clinical condition.
