Is Positive HPV In Pap Smear A Matter Of Concern?

Dont worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I understand your concern..
You didn't tell anything about present pap smear report.. Is it normal or is there any abnormal cells or HPV..
If the present Pap smear shows abnormal cells, then colposcopy is done and abnormal tissue are removed and sent for histopathology, then pap smear is repeated after 6 months and then yearly till 2 consecutive reports are normal. Then pap smear is repeated every 3 years.
May be in your case the pap smear might have some abnormal cells but need not be cancerous.. By doing a colposcopy and taking a biopsy, it is confirmatory. Only then the future treatment can be planned. Can you send me the pap smear report ?
Hope I have answered your query.. Please write back to me for doubts if any.. Good day..

Should I be worries about cancer it's been about 1.5 years since my last pap witch also had HPV
Dont worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
HPV virus fall into 2 categories- low risk HPV 6 and 11 are more common doesnot cause cancer. High risk HPV 16 and 18 which is less common causes cancer of cervix. So exact category of HPV is required to predict chances of cancer.
In most cases HPV infection resolves in 1 to 2 years. In your case, since the 2nd report was also HPV positive , a colposcopy is required and any abnormal cells detected need to be biopsied and abnormal area need to be cauterised if its small. Dont worry.. Regular follow up is sufficient. Only 5% case of HPV turn out to be cancerous. So dont take tension..
Hope I have answerd your question. If you dont have any doubts, please close the conversation and rate my answer. Good day.
