Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking Oral Contraceptive Pill?

no chances of pregnancy in safe period...explained
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
THANKS FOR The query to hcm,
Firstly you had unprotected sex with her in her safe period , just after her menses ended , so she had not ovulated and there are no chances of pregnancy anyways. But to be doubly safe you have rightly given her unwanted 72 tab within 72 hrs of intercourse. This is double protection and she should get a withdrawal bleeding next 5-7 days. Once the bleed occurs it further confirms that she is not pregnant.
Thirdly if the bleed is delayed then you may get her serum beta hcg test done to rule out any pregnancy confirmatively after 7 days post intercourse. Though this is likely to be negative but this should be the protocol of your actions.
So rest assured , she is likely to be pregnancy safe.

Hello,
As i said she was in her safe period so chances of pregnancy are anyways negligible. Also you have given her unwanted 72 which was for double protection and you were right on your part, Now you have to wait till 22-24 august for her withdrawal bleeding to start which will ensure that she is not pregnant at all. Also on 24 august you may get a serum beta hcg test done to doubly confirm the same.
She is not likely to get pregnant with the history you have given and that you followed a withdrawal technique during intercourse.
So you may wait till 24th and watch.

Hello,
Serum beta hcg test is a blood test of the lady which can detect the hcg levels in the blood which if found to be more than 1ng/dl or raised then pregnancy is confirmed but if it is less than 1 then pregnancy is ruled. This can be earliest done after 7 days of intercourse.
It is more sensitive and specific than urine pregnancy test ( preganews), moreover urine pregnancy test is not valid at present and would give false negative report. Urine pregnancy test should only be done after 8 days post missed period, so at present serum beta hcg test is to be done by 24th august if the withdrawal bleeding doesn't occur.

Hello,
Thanks for the follow up.
I would suggest you to still wait till 26-28th , and then you should get the serum beta hcg test done. If the test turns out to be negative then it would be sure that she is not pregnant. Then if still she doesn't get her menses still in another one week, then she can be given a withdrawal bleed with progesterones.
So presently just wait. If the test is positive then you both have to decide regarding continuation or termination of pregnancy.
Secondly regarding your concern about paracetamol, it has no interactions with the ipill and is not the cause of any kind of delay in withdrawal bleed.

Hello,
I understand your concern here ,
As i said serum beta hcg test can be done after 8-10 days of last intercourse, so considering you had intercourse on 16th august, so you may get it done on 26th august safely. If there has been a failure of emergency contraception and if she has become pregnant then the levels of hcg so detected would be higher than 1ng/dl else a negative test would show levels less than 1ng/dl.
This is a test which has the advantage of detecting pregnancy before her next menstrual date , else another option is to allow her to wait for 7 days post missed periods and then do a urine pregnancy test. A urine pregnancy test should not be done now as it would unnecessarily give a false negative test, so serum beta hcg test is the best way as of now.
Sonography is to be done only after pregnancy is confirmed by hcg levels and then after 10 days following missed periods..i ,e. 20th september only when a gestational sac can be seen evidently.
Please don't panic, A serum beta hcg test can be done in any diagnostic lab and doctors don't have any such concern of not getting it tested just because there is no marriage between both of you. They will not refuse to prescribe.
So go to any doctor and get it prescribed for early detection. Rest of the management shall depend on its result.

Hello,
TO answer your queries one by one:-
1. yes you can get the hcg test done tomorrow. If negative then she is not pregnant.
2. in case of unmarried girls, consent of parents is still required but if she is an adult then she can give consent as per MTP act.
3. you should get the hcg test done , if negative then you can wait safely for another week for menses to return naturally.
4. progesterones are hormones and prescribed only by a physician and not available over the counter, so you have to visit your gynaecologist for that.
5. sometimes stress itself and dehydration may delay the withdrawal, so keep her well hydrated and try to decrease the stress levels.
6. yes if hcg negative then for sure she is not pregnant.
7. you should ideally visit your nearest gynecologist for help if menses are not resumed or the hcg test is positive.
8. headache and breast pain is due to progesterone effect and hence she should be kept well hydrated with 12-15 glasses of water daily.
9. I am sorry i don't know any doctor in XXXXXXX
