Is Pregnancy Possible Through Pre-ejaculatory Fluid?

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Aug 2016
Question: I had a medical abortion on 6/16. The Sunday following that I started chateal as a form of birth control . For the most part I took it regularly around 3pm everyday , some days were delayed but never did I totally skip a pill or have to take two doses in a day . I abstained from any sexual activity until 7/18 . This was after taking the last placebo pill of Chateal and having a period . We used withdraw and from what I witnessed it seemed like no ejaculation happened inside the vagina . On 7/18 at 3pm I took Altavera which is now the pill my pcp wants me to stay with . Since 7/18 I've taken my pills exactly at 3pm on the dot and plan to continue doing so. With this info , is there any concern here regarding a pregnancy occurring from any pre ejaculation , will those delayed pills make a difference in protection even if it was weeks prior to when I had sex ?

Brief Answer:
almost no chance of pregnancy. Use multi vitamin and multi mineral.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Dr Purushottam Neurgaonkar here. I welcome you to HCM VIRTUAL CLINIC. I have gone through your question, and I think I have understood your concern. I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

1 ) First of all do not panic.

2 ) As per your history, you have not missed any of the pills till July 17th. And now you have started on another brand of pills. If you have started the next pack of pills after finishing the last placebo tablet, then you need not worry. There is adequate contraceptive protection offered to you.

Just delayed timings of the pill is quite alright. As you have never missed a pill is good enough to offer you contraceptive effects.

3 ) Your concern about pre ejaculation secretions is absolutely right. But as you were adequately protected by pills chances of getting pregnant are almost nil.

4 ) I usually suggest to my patients using such pills to indulge in a healthy diet and regular exercise regimen. Also Tablets of multivitamin and multi mineral supplements one every day will be of help.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.

Is it okay if I happen to take the pill 5 minutes before my scheduled time due to an obligation to ensure that it isn't taken late ?

Brief Answer:
30 minutes margin is okay .

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Dr Purushottam Neurgaonkar here. Thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back.

The pills that are available now a days have to be taken regularly, and you can have margin of plus minus 30 minutes. But do not make more deviation. Also , please do not miss the pill . Take care to have the missed pill as soon as you remember about it.

Missing more than 2 pills can lead to abnormal bleeding and will not be offering contraceptive effects.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
