Question: Dear Doctor, My mother in law's cow was bitten by dog infected with Rabbis and she is taking caring of the cow now. Cow is currently normal and getting some injections and doctor suggested it will take couple of week's time to show the symptoms if at all infected.Do she also need to take anti-rabbis injection? Please suggest what all precaution she should take.

Brief Answer:
Pre exposure prophylaxis can be taken

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for your query.

I don't think there is much need for vaccine but still pre-exposure prophylaxis can be taken in which rabies vaccine is given on 0, 7 and 28 days. Since rabies is transmitted via saliva of biting infected animal, mostly the precautions would involve to avoid bite from that infected dog and also from the cow.

Hope it helps.
