Is Seborrheic Dermatitis A Symptom Of HIV?
It might be a skin manifestation of HIV infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I read carefully your query.
Cradle cap or Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin disorder .It is a type of skin rash. The condition mainly affects the more greasy areas of the skin such as the scalp, the forehead and the face around the eyebrow area and on either side of the nose.
This skin condition can affect babies in the first months and usually it clears up on its own for some weeks and can return in teenage.
This skin condition has a correlation with HIV infection. The prevalence
of seborrheic dermatitis varies between 3% and 5% in general population, while in HIV positive patients there is an increased prevalence ranging between 30% and 83%.
People who have immune system problems such as HIV/AIDS are more prone to develop severe seborrhoeic dermatitis. So in such cases this skin condition is more severe and difficult to treat then in general population.
Seborrhoeic dermatitis may occur at any stage of HIV infection. It may occur early in the course of HIV infection or in the late stage (AIDS).
Usually it occurs some years after the infection when the level of CD4 begin to decline.
Hope it helps.Let me know if you have any other question or doubts to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.
