Is Serum Prolactin Value Of 69.72ng/ml Indicative Of Brain Problems?

It could be a small a pituitary tumour
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Increased prolactin in blood can be due to 3 things
1. Medications
Some medicines taken for gastritis, mental / neurological disorders, abdominal diseases, etc can increase prolactin. If you are on any of these medications your doctor will usually stop this drug for 3-5
days and repeat a blood test for prolactin.
2. Some diseases
Decreased thyroid gland function and poly cystic ovaries can cause an increased prolactin. The doctor will treat the condition and then repeat the test
3. Pituitary tumours
This is the true increased prolactin. Pituitary is a small gland in the under surface of brain. Small tumour in pituitary can increase prolactin. So if there are no drugs or diseases that increase your prolactin, the doctor will do an MRI scan of brain to look for pituitary tumour.
Don't worry. Even if it is a pituitary tumour it is usually very small and can be cured by medicines. Surgery is only rarely needed in prolactin secreting brain tumour.
So I suggest you to go with your doctors opinion and go ahead with an MRI. Please let me know the reports.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help you.
