Is Severe Sweating In The Scalp Associated With Mantle Cell Lymphoma?

default
Posted on Thu, 28 Sep 2017
Question: My husband now age 79 had mantle cell lymphoma diagnosed in 2002 and had a stem cell transplant in 2006. He has been cancer free since that time. Lately he has been experiencing severe sweating..some of it attributed to hot weather but not the night sweats. It seems to be mostly his head that just gets really wet. I remember that when he was being treated for the cancer, one of the questions asked each time was "do you have night sweats?" Should he consult an oncologist or do you have another reason why he is having this problem? He has no other health issues, except that he had rotator cuff surgery two weeks ago. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Any weight loss? Fatigue? Lack of appetite?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully. It would be rare that the cancer presents with just a single symptom of night sweats. I will like to know if he has other concerning symptoms such as weight loss, loss of appetite, fatigue, etc. If he doesn't, then it is unlikely.

At this time, I will like to see him get a blood test. If it is normal and there are no other symptoms, then it is unlikely that there are any issues. If any abnormalities are noted, with or without symptoms, it will call for further exploration. I will start with his doctor and use an oncologist if need be.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
