Question: I have had a dull ache in or around my hip joint for a couple of days. Tonight after running a bit (2 miles) at the gym, it hurts to walk. What could it be and is okay to take naproxen 500mg if I am a smoker?

Brief Answer:
Irritation of IT Band

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Yes, it is possible that you could have irritation of IT band. I would suggest you avoid running for 10 days. You can try brisk walking but if it still hurts, then just resort to static cycling or Cross trainer, or regular walking.

Yes, you can take Naproxen. Smoking will only increase the possibility of gastritis so it would be better to lay off from smoking. Do take antacid like Tablet Ranitidine 150mg once or twice a day, half an hour before meals.

Apply ice to the painful region and keep the limb elevated.

It should get better in 5 days.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
