Question: I have a very sore throat but when I look in my mouth I only see one white patch way in the back of my mouth. Is this strep? Also, I have no fever. thanks.
Brief Answer:
here is what happens with strep
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question.
There are many things that can cause a sore throat but here are the characteristics that are associated with strep:
1) severe sore throat
2) red or white patches in the back of the throat
3) fever
4) swollen lymph nodes in the front of the neck
5) no cough
The more of these you have the more likely it is that it is strep, but the only way to know for sure is to get a step test.
If all you have is a mild sore throat with a white patch it is not likely strep. If you have a cough it is almost definitely not strep, more likely a viral infection.
I hope this is helpful
