Is Stent Implantation The Right Treatment For Clogged Artery In The Heart?

I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
Regarding your concern, I would explain that as your cardiac stress tests has shown evidence of myocardial ischemia, before concluding about unequivocal need of a coronary stent it is necessary to perform a direct coronary artery visualization by means of a specific imaging test, which is coronary angiography (coronarygraphy).
This is the gold standard for getting the exact evidence of any coronary lesions (stenosis), its severity, location and whether there are multiple affected coronary arteries.
Only after gathering such valuable information by this test, the doctor is able to conclude whether you really need a revascularisation procedure (angioplasty with stent implantation) or medical therapy is quite sufficient to control your symptoms.
I would also like to let you know that not always a cardiac stress test (with clear evidence of cardiac ischemia) correlates with coronary artery disease (significant coronary artery stenosis) after performing coronary angiography.
Regarding medications that would be helpful in the management of cardiac ischemia symptomatology are:
1- Drugs to control your blood lipid profile: statins (atorvastatin, simvastatin, etc.)
2- Anti-platelet agents : aspirin, clopidogrel, etc.
3- Vessel dilators like : nitrates, beta blockers ,etc.
But you have to discuss with your attending doctor in order to determine the best medical approach according to your actual clinical conditions.
Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
