Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query

I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Would you please clarify a few things for me?
- did you have any symptoms such as XXXXXXX day time Sleepiness, lack of energy, hair fall, weight gain, vague body aches, irregular menstrual cycles?
-did you do any other blood tests (free T3, T4;thyroid antibodies, prolactin levels, hemoglobin levels)?
-do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
-Have you made any changes in diet?

An elevated TSH is indicative of hypothyroidism. (clinical :with symptoms and TSH elevated more than 15 or subclinical : with few or no symptoms and TSH less than 15).

Your levels do indicate some level of hypothyroidism and it is has normalized with medications. I recommend :

- that you continue at same dose (12.5mcg) for another 3 months and repeat TSH. If between 0.5-1,reduce dose to 6. 25mcg for another 3 months.
If TSH normalizes, continue dose and repeat test after 6 months.
- if TSH is more than 1, continue at 12.5 mcg and check tsh after 6 months.

It is usually necessary to take this lifelong. Taking adequate iodine, losing weight (if overweight), and good protein diet will help get off the pill if these are the causes for it.
I suggest that you get the above tests mentioned in the question above to find out if it is due to auto immunity or not.
Also note that the requirements for thyronorm may increase as time goes by or in times of severe stress or illness.

Make sure to check TSH twice a year and Free T3, and free t4 once a year to make sure it is in control.

This medication should be taken on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Avoid meals or drinks (except water) for an hour.
Do not take along with calcium or iron supplements.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad

I do not have any other symptoms or problems. TSH (6.11) came into light 3 months ago when i went for regular health check-up blood tests. I met my physician who prescribed 12.5mcg Thyronorm. i have been taking it. I did t3 and t4 tests after taking thyronorm 12.5mcg for 3 months, this week. The values were t3 1.28 and t4 10.70. and TSH came down to 3.07.

my haemoglobin has always been above 12. I am not on any other medication. I exercise regularly. my height is 5.2 and weight is 64kg. i have not made any change in diet in recent years. i drink lot of water and also eat lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. i do not take coffee or tea. i regularly drink green tea without milk or sugar.

we are vegetarians (not even eggs). how do i improve on Iodine intake and also protein?
