Is Surgery Advisable For Ectopic Kidney In A Child?
Question: 7 years child - left kidney ectopic & malabsorbed, will it need surgery for correction, or any medication can cure them. what is further prognosis, what is life expectancy
Brief Answer:
no operation is required
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
As per the reports one kidney is ectopic and MALROTATED. This is a developmental abnormality and it does not warrant any treatment or surgery as such.
If the other kidney is normal then there are no implications on the life of the patient.
only thing is that you have to be watchful of urine infections , high blood pressure and simple tests like serum creatinine and urine routine should be done in case child has fever or any other problem.
So don't worry there is no long term implications if other kidney is normal
Do write-in if there are any other queries.
Best wishes
