This is an appropriate switch. The maximum dose of Lexapro wasn't working, so a switch is indicated, and mirtazapine is an excellent antiepressant particularly in the geriatric population. Doses range from 7.5mg up to 45mg, so there's a lot of room to increase to improve your symptoms.
