Is The Antithrombin Value Of 149% A Cause Of Concern?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jan 2015
Question: my antithrombin iii value is 149% and my protein s activity value is 40 what does this mean? If the value of the antithrombin is above "normal limit"- it is not a concern, is that correct? Also, not sure if this will be helpful: RBC- 3.31, Hgb- 10.2, Hematocrit- 27.9.

Brief Answer:
Yes, it should not be a concern.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Jyothi BL and I will be answering your query.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:
1. Yes, you are correct. Antithrombin value of 149% should not be a concern.

2. Protein S activity is a bit low. It is reduced in malnutrition or when you are on warfarin therapy.

3. You probably have a history of clot/thrombus formation or a possible risk factor, I am not sure. These values at present are no significant.

4. You have mild anemia. MCV less than 80 would usually suggest iron deficiency, whereas MCV more than 100 would suggest vit B12 deficiency. If within normal range, possible blood loss could be a cause. You need to improve nutrition to improve hemoglobin values and also protein S levels.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
