Is chronic lymphocytic leukemia considered a lymphoma?
Brief Answer:
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia never should be considered a lymphoma...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Although they are similar chronic lymphocytic leukemia is different and shouldn't be considered a lymphoma. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is a different disease and always should be differentiated from lymphoma.
In chronic lymphocytic leukemia the pathologic process originates in the bone marrow that produces too many lymphocytes that overcome the number of other blood cell. As a result Lymphocytic leukemia develops. Only in late phases it may involve the lymph nodes.
On the contrary Lymphoma is originated on the lymph nodes (that are part of immune system) and it never affects the bone marrow.
Hope this will be of help!
Wish your health!
