Is There Any Catch Up Doses For IPV?
MY Paed gave OPV instead of IPV during 6w, 10w, 14w vaccination schedule(also I am unaware of IPV).Today as advised by my Paed I went to Govt Polio Camp for Oral Polio drop. There I was told by health care professional that IPV should be given along with OPV during 6w, 10w, 14w (which was given in any govt healthcare free of cost). Now I am bit tensed as my baby didn't got single dose of IPV.
1)Is there any catch up doses for IPV? If yes, how many doses and time interval between doses?
2) Are OPV given my Paed and Govt Camp are same?
IPV 1st dose now and 2nd after 1 year of age
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
welcome to this forum. Can understand your concerns.
IPV should be given at 6, 10 and 14 weeks according to XXXXXXX Academy of Pediatrics. however, if it is not given at above scheduled time then first dose of ipv should be given before one year and other dose should be given after 1 year of age.
you should give first dose of ipv now and second dose of ipv after your child turns 1 year of age.
OPV given at Government and private sector are same and there is no difference in it because both are following government guidelines.
don't worry, there is not a single case of polio after 2014 in XXXXXXX so you don't have to worry about it but as per recommendation of XXXXXXX Academy of Pediatrics ipv should be given as advised above.
I hope this will help you.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.
Is there any chances of Vaccine Associated Paralytic Poliomyelitis (VAPP) due to OPV?
Minimal chance
Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome once again.
Vaccine associated paralytic poliomyelitis is a known complication of oral polio vaccine. But now since they have changed the oral polio vaccine from trivaccine to mono vaccine chances of vapp is almost nil.
Vapp is always a known complication of OPV. It occurs by merely a chance in Millions.
even if you give ipv at 6, 10 and 14 weeks the XXXXXXX Academy of Pediatrics recommends opv with ipv. So you don't have to worry about it.
Just give ipv now and after 1 year of age. Opv is also recommended with ipv at 6, 10 and 14 weeks.
ipv vaccine is started from 2017, before 2017 only OPV vaccine was given. I think you should not worry about this.
Take care.
