Is There Any Chance Of Contracting Infection After Cleaning Puss From Dog?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Dec 2013
Question: My dog recently has ear surgery. An abcess formed and puss was coming out of the wound that I promptly cleaned. Once his cultures came back they realized it was an enterobacteria (no specific one was noted) that is only susceptible to Amikacin antibiotic IM injection. I remember reading about the "Super bug" CRE, this summer. Is this the same bacteria? Am I at risk of contracting it since I was touching his wound?

Brief Answer: You does not have risk of acquiring the infection. Detailed Answer: Hello, Welcome to Health care magic Super bug CRE stands for a group of bacteria - CARBAPENEM RESISTANT ENTEROBACTERIAE They are group of enterobacteriae including Ecoli and Klebsiella which are resistant to most of the antibiotics. These are usually acquired as hospital acquired infections. They are not seen in healthy individuals. They are acquired in people who are chronically ill administered in hospitals and on treatment with long term antibiotics. They are usually seen in people who are intravenous lines, mechanical ventilators.taking antibiotics for a long time.... Since you does not seem to have any of these risk factors and an healthy individual no need to worry you does not seem to have risk of contracting this infection. Hope I have answered your query. Thank you

Brief Answer: You can use antiallergic eye drops Detailed Answer: Hello Thank you for the followup. Burning eyes are because of allergic conditions. The treatment is by avoiding exposure to probable allergens like dust, smoke.... The medical treatment is by using anti allergic eye drops. I usually prescribe antihistamine eye drops like olapatadine once or twice depending on the severity. Along with anti allergic eye drops I prefer artificial tears and lubricating eye drops for rapid relief from symptoms. Hope I have answered your query. If you have any other query I will be more than happy to answer. If you do not have further queries please close the query and rate the query. Thank you With regards Dr Dadapeer K
