Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi doctor my new born girl baby is affected with enterobacter cloacea bacteria. It is affected in her her left eye and a pus like substance is coming from her eyes. The doctor prescribed gentomycin eye drop. Is it effective. Last 4 days these eye drops are applying but still it is coming. Baby is only 5 days.
Eye infection on one side in newborns is most commonly caused by blockage of nasolacrimal duct (that carries tear from eyes to nose). This causes stagnation of tear with secondary infection. This needs regular massaging in lacrimal sac area (on both sides of root of nose). Do this regularly while breast feeding. Also, I used to give Tobramycin eye drops for 5 days to control initial infection.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
