Is Using An Unopened Bottle Of Nasonex Nasal Spray Post Expiry Date Advisable?
Question: I have been prescribed Nasonex Nasal Spray. I still have an unopened bottle with expiration date of August 2014. Can I still use this to save purchasing another Rx.?
Brief Answer:
It may be used with caution
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Nasonex contains a steroidal compound (mometasone) which is a prescription medicine.
In my opinion it can be used beyond expiry date with caution. Check if it is clumped or cloudy. If it is not then it can be used. Second issue that may happen is that the active ingredient (mometasone) may degrade with time. Since it is only being used for local application (in nose), it should not create any problems.
Hope it helps.
