Is Vitiligo Heritable From Mother To Children?

Question: Hello Doctor

I had vitiligo on my face during my childhood.

I had a lot of treatments for that and now it is cured to about 80%. Have attached my photograph herewith.

I just want to know if there are any possibilities that my children would get this kind of disease?

I have an idea of marrying my cousin (close relative - my father's sister's daughter). Will this increase the probability of my child getting this for genetic reasons.

Please explain me on how to handle this.

Thanks for your query.

Need not worry.

Though development of Vitiligo is determined by genetic factors, it is rarely inherited. The chances of your kids getting it is too less.

Also. unfortunately there are no interventions to prevent inheritance.

I would suggest you not to worry, as the chances are too less and lesser than 1 in 100.
