Is Weight Gain A Side Effect Of Verapamil?
XXXX
I would recommend continuing taking lipitor 10mg.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for asking on HCM!
I carefully passed through your question and reviewed all your uploaded tests and would explain that :
a- your total coronary calcium score results 461 which is high and indicates an increased risk for future coronary events (myocardial ischemia)
b- There are several atherosclerotic plaques in the large portion of the coronary arteries, but the distal portion is poorly visualised in this exam (which means that we can not come into conclusion regarding possible stenosis).
Coming to this point, I agree with your doctor decision on starting Lipitor 10mg.
However, this is a really small doses and it is really less probable to cause adverse effects.
Diabetes and weight gain are really less probable to happen. It is not true that diabetes is caused by statins. You should know that we use statins in every diabetic patient, because diabetes can lead to dyslipidemia.
I would recommend performing a coronary angiography if the chest pain persists.
A balanced diet (avoid saturated fat and sugar, take food rich in omega 3 fatty acids like fish, fish oil, walnuts, etc.) and performing a lot of physical activity (walking, aerobics, etc.) would be helpful.
A close monitoring of your fasting glucose and repeated HbA1C would also help be aware of the presence or not of diabetes (considering that you are a prediabetic).
Losing some pounds and avoiding smoking contacts is also advisable.
Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
