Is Yellow Mucus A Sign Of Recurrence Of Sinusitis After Treating It?
Question: I just had a 14 day bout with sinusitus(sp!) and bronchitis. The day after finishing with doxycycline
10 day antibiotic there was still still congestion and a little bit of slightly colored snot (sorry).
Today I talked to another of my doctor's nurses and I explained that the "snot is now yellow".
She advised that I take a saline solution four times a day and said the yellow secretions are
from the white blood cells rushing to that area of my head. Does this mean a re-infectio?

Based on the history you have shared, it seems quite possible, that infection has recurred has yellowishness of sputum or discharge goes in its favor. A reinfection of partially treated infection, both can be the possibilities as sometimes more than one bacterial organism is involved in an infection and one antibiotic like doxycycline might have covered one bug and left remained resistant to it so the infection persisted. Right approach would be to get a culture and sensitivity of the sputum or discharging secretions and select antibiotic accordingly. Also get an ENT review as many nasal pathologies like DNS etc. can also lead to recurrent sinusitis infections. In that case, treat the cause first. You can continue using loratidine Meanwhile for another week. Drink plenty of fluids, and steam inhalations alongwith saline water gargles.
