Having Frequent Sinus Infection, Excess Mucus Secretion, Hearing Problem, Swelling And Sore Throat. On Antibiotic. Cause And Cure?
I have been having ? infections on and off since November. Originally treated as sinus infection however recent x ray indicates x ray negative, symproms are increased mucous production, decreased hearing, sore throat, swelling in back of throat on right side, Symptoms resolve when antibiotic taken and then reappear about three weeks following completion of antibiotics. Tend to sneeze a lot.

Rhinosinusitis is inflammation of the nasal passages and sinuses. It can be due to infection or allergies.
If your investigations indicate that it is not infective in origin then your symptoms may be provoked by an allergic stimulus.
You may want to consider having allergy testing done, this would identify the allergen that is causing the symptoms and if this can be eliminated or reduced, it should result in an improvement of your symptoms.
Normally in addition to elimination of the allergen, the following medication is recommended: topical steroid nasal sprays, antihistamines and decongestants (oral can be used for a long time but topical decongestants can only be used for 3 to 5 days at a time).
You can also try singulair which is a mast cell stabiliser and prevents the release of histamine in the blood stream.

Most probably you are having recurrent sinusitis which is not responding to antibiotics. You need to get a complete workup done to diagnose and treat this problem. Xrays can be falsely negative in many cases. You should ask the doctor to get a CT scan of your sinuses.The CT scan costs almost the same as we need only 10 to 12 Coronal cuts but it is much more sensitive. Secondly if we do assume you have sinusitis which is partially responding to antibiotics we would need cultures to know exactly which bacteria are causing this problem, so we know if the bacteria and sensitive or resistant to the medicine we prescribe.
As you say you sneeze a lot, it is possible that you may have come in contact with an allergen and this is just allergic rhinitis causing all these problems. You would have to figure out which objects are new to your environment or cause sneezing. Remove those and you will feel much better. Otherwise you can use anti allergic medicine and these will help.
