Left Knee Turned Purple With Pain. Not Injured. Any Suggestions?

Question: Wife's left knee turned purple; looks like a bad bruise, but she hasn't been injured in that area. She says there is some pain. Any suggestions?

Hi, thank you for your question.

Is your wife on Aspirin or Warfarin, it could be because of them she developed small bleeding in the muscle or skin.
If she had injury to the upper leg, the bruising can collect around the knee.
Knee Joint inflammation can also cause change in colour.

If she can not move the knee fully due to pain then blood test and x-ray of the knee will be needed.
