Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mum is 80 and has suffered 3 strokes. She has been on warfarin now for over 2 years. Since being on warfarin her ankles swell badly and the skin around her ankle becomes blotchy and dry. As soon as she stops taking her medication (ie she recently had food poisoning or before an operation) her ankles return to normal. Is there an alternative to warfarin?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Javeriya 's Response
Hi,
You should consult the doctor first, the one who treated your mom. About Warfarin, you should stop the tablet unless and until your doctor suggests it.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Javeriya, General & Family Physician
