Nosebleeds, Liver Transplant. Ferrous Sulfate Beneficial?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 May 2012
Question: Can ferrous sulfate be used on a q-tip and be effecive in stoping
nosebleeds. My nosebleeds come from using cummidin and drugs
needed after liver transplant that reduces my immune system. My
dentist uses it to stop bleeding in the mouth.

Hello.
Thanks for your query.
Ferrous sulphate if applied locally can stop minor capillary bleeds fro which reason dentists do use it sometimes.
The nose bleeds are also minor capillary bleeds and you can well use it there also if it is available to you. But you have other options for nose bleeds also.
1. Hold your nose tightly closed with your hand for 1-2 minutes and take XXXXXXX breaths from your mouth.
2. apply an ice pack to cause capillary constriction and stop the bleeding.
3. Alum water can also be used to cause vasoconstriction to stop bleeding.

Hope I have answered your query. I will be available if you have any further queries.
Regards.
