Question: Sorry doctors - I had my gallbladder out it 2006. Over the years I've noticed that I pass gass more and more. Sometimes it's really embarrasing and I have to time when I eat vs when I go out. Is this a symptom of fatty liver. How can I cure it?

Hello, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
I don't think that your gallbladder removal has much
to do with your present problem.Even though your
Gall bladder is removed, your liver continues to produce
bile that your body needs for digestion of fat.
Excess gas is from two major components. One is from
the air that we swallow everytime we eat or drink and
the second is the from the fermentation of foods that
we eat.More carbohydrates(starches) produce more gas.
Also, if you have developed lactose intolerance that could
give you more gas.Get a breath test that can rule out this.
As for treatment, avoid eating too fast, bnot drink till after
meals, cut back on carbonated drinks, quit smoking ifDrugs or supplements like simethacone based products may help a little but not cure it.
Some studies have shown peppermint oil may help. You can try 1-2 teaspoons three times a day.
Wish you well.
you are a smoker, stop chewing too much gum, if you are.

Thank you Dr. Narasi. I do get more gas after sweets, carbs, nuts. Regarding the peppermint oil - do you mean straight essential oil or a few drops diluted in water?

Hello, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
As for the peppermint oil , you can try straight oil.
Start with half a teaspoon and you can advance it
to a full teaspoon two or three times a day. Make sure
you do kkep up with your fluid intake, mainly water.
Hope this helps.
Wish you well.
