Prescribed With Omnacortil, Blumox Plus, Acilox And Derephyllin For Cough And Wheezing. No Asthma. Need To Take All These Medications?
Question: i consulted a doctor for a two weeks old cough and mild wheezing.I am 38.He prescribed omnacortil,blumox plus,acilox rd,montlore lc and derephyllin.I am not asthmatic.Should i take all these drugs?please advice.

You have given a history that you have got cough since 2 weeks and mild wheezing.
Wheezing is a complaint which you get when you get inflammation of the bronchi (tubes through which the air passes).
Inflammation of bronchi results in narrowing of the airway and causes wheeze due to stress in breathing.
You do not have history of asthma but the condition you are presently suffering from is similar in symptoms to asthma and it is called Asthmatic Bronchitis in medical terms, probably this could be the case with you.
For persons suffering from allergy to dust, smoke, pollen (like you have allergy to dust) it is common to get infection of chest and in some people it precipitates into asthmatic bronchitis.
So you have been prescribed antibiotic(blumox plus) and bronchodilator (deriphyllin) and aciloc is an antacid.
Montlore-LC:- It is a combination of Montelukast which is a leukotrine receptor antagonist and helps reduce the inflammation of the airway and reduces bronchoconstriction. It is also helpful in control of allergies. And the second part LC is for Levocetrizine an antihistaminic and is used as antiallergic. This combination is very effective in treating seasonal allergies.
Lastly you have been prescribed a corticosteroid. It is used in cases of allergies, inflammation of air ways as it reduces the bronchoconstriction.
You have got a history of high BP so I guess you are on medicine for that, although you have not mentioned any. If you are on some medicine take it regularly.
So even though you are not asthmatic the problem of wheeze needs to be treated and the proper treatment has been prescribed to you and you should take it.
Avoid cold food and drinks;exposure to dust and smoke, take rest, don't go for walk early in morning as during winter the air is heavier if there is cold in morning.
Keep good follow up with your doctor and you should be fine.
