Red Spot On Hand, Not Sore Or Itchy. No Impairment. What Is It?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Sep 2012
Question: I have a small circular red spot that has appeared on my left hand. It is located about 1/4 inch behind my small and ring fingers. It is approximately 3/4 round with perhaps a 1/8 inch red outer area then fading to a more pinkish interior. It is not sore to the touch nor does it itch. It has caused no impairment to my hand that I can tell. I would like to know what it is and whether it should be treated or not.

Hi Dear,

Thanks for writing in.

The rash you are describing can be folliculitis, granuloma annulare, fungal infection , keloid ,insect bite etc.

If you can upload good quality photos of the affected skin ,it will help a lot in predicting the condition.

Also I would like to know-

Is it scaly?

does it itch?It appeared suddenly or slowly?

have you applied anything over it?

Does it discharge pus ?

Please answer the above questions to help you better.

I have uploaded 2 photos of the affected area.

It is not scaly.
It does not itch.
It did appear rather suddenly, within 1 day. It started as just a overall darker pink area.
I have not applied anything to it.
It does not have any discharge.
The skin does not feel any different to the touch. There are no raised or broken portions.

Hi again,

Thanks for details and images.

It now appears to be purpura .It can be other things also.

It most commonly can be due to age related changes.

You need not be worried much about it.

Just apply calamine lotion twice daily.

It will go away on its slowly within weeks to follow.

Just observe the lesion for week and it will fade on its own.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
