Regular Hard Stool. How To Get Relief?
Thanks for your query.
The majority of children with hard stools and constipation do not have a medical disease which causes the constipation.
The commonest reason to get hard stools in children is the low water and fluid intake.
Another cause is a child avoids going to the toilet for various reasons example, toddlers are often so involved in their play that they forget toilet breaks.
When this happens the water in the stools is reabsorbed by the intestine making it hard.
Few things you can do at home to help your child:-
a-Have her sit on the toilet for at least 10 minutes after every meal as at this time the peristalsis or movement of intestine is increased in an attempt to empty the bowel(this is called gastro colonic reflex)
B- Give your child plenty of fluids and juices, such as prune or XXXXXXX juice.
c- Give her well-balanced meal consisting of whole XXXXXXX cereals, fruits, and vegetables.
d-Reduce her intake of deserts, sweets, candies etc.
e-If needed (that is if the above precautions do not help) then she can be given laxative for a longer period by discussing it with her Pediatrician like you are using milk of magnesia.
